Mapping Festival 2012 line up posted

Mapping Festival 2012
It’s up and ready to go, for all to read. The program for the 8th edition of the Mapping Festival has been posted to the Mapping Festival website. Probably of paramount importance on this blog is that there will be a MadMapping workshop during the festival. I know for sure that it will not be me because I will be flying down to the Athens Video Art Festival to conduct a MadMapping workshop there. Solid information about that pending as well. We’ll have it up for sure at least a month prior to the date.

Re: the design of these festivals, it seems that white on black is the new… black?

If you can swing going to Geneva for the workshop you will also get to see some very fine installations. I think Joanie Lemercier’s (AntiVJ/FR) Eyjafjallajokull will be an incredibly nice piece of inspiration to go hand in hand with a workshop. And if the dates match up and you are a live drawing freak, the TagTool workshop is also something that would be high on my list if I were there.

I actually will be at the festival in the very beginning for the Secret Release party. But being that it is a secret I have already written too much.

CALL FOR ENTRIES – MAPPING FESTIVAL 2012

Here it is again. The call is open for you to submit ideas for you, or your collective to bring your inspired works to a public platform of your peers at the legendary Mapping Festival in Geneva, Switzerland.

One of the big events of the 2011 edition was the release of MadMapper and the MadMapping workshop that coincided with it. Will this edition bring something completely new? Too soon to tell. Either way, this festival is starting to feel a little like a Willy Wonka factory for VJs.

To submit your work(s), you have to submit a completed form and register on line at: www.mappingfestival.com

PLEASE NOTE: Mapping Festival 2012 call for entries start TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18th and close FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18th.

Categories accepted:
– Clubbing: VJing / scenography / Set AV
– Audiovisual performance
– Installation / Exhibition
– Outdoor projection
– Workshop / Lecture / Software demonstration

The dates for the next edition of the Mapping Festival: May 10th to 20th, 2012!

La Parfumeria

It was almost a year ago now that the MetaMapping took place, a 10 day residency (taking place 10 days prior to the Mapping Festival) that hosted a group of very talented artists working in the realm of the digital arts.

The residency took place in a special location in Geneva called the Parfumerie, a former perfume factory that was converted into a performance space, dance rehearsal studio and theater. One of the main goals was to present an event on the 2nd night of the Mapping festival where each of the artists did something so that all of the main areas of the space were active with their visions. One of the artists was Bego M. Santiago who decided to occupy the tower room.

Good documentation can take a long time to put together but Bego’s very own interpretation of this piece was well worth the wait.

This year, a slight variation of the MetaMapping will take place during the Mapping Festival, this time as part of the release of the MadMapper, aptly named MadMapping. Of the many differences between MetaMapping and MadMapping is the inclusion process. For the MetaMapping I was given the task of finding and selecting artists.
MadMapping requests that interested in individuals apply. Due to space limitations 15 people will be selected. If you already applied, I wish you the best of luck. If the workshop is a success it may be something that could be repeated again. Who knows. I hope to see great documentation from it.
