Modul8 2.7 beta 2

Modul8 2.7 beta 2 is now available for download from the Modul8 yourspace page.

Fixes:
- A potential crash due to the Flash plug-in. Now the plug-in will only initialize if Flash media is used.
- A Layerset selection problem and potential random behavior due to an issue in the keyword module feedback.
- Some issues with module download, registration, authorization and de-authorization with non-latin languages (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese…) and when unexpected space characters are used in the serial number.
- An issue when switching document/default midi configurations in preferences
- An issue in updating the display of the midi mapping when importing a midi mapping
- An issue in the path of media when a project is saved with the media collector

Added:
- Module function: sendDMX has a new special value: -1 for the subnet/universe Art-Net used in the preferences. Example: sendDMX(-1, channel, value). Some DMX modules have been updated in the GarageCUBE online module library.
- Native support for the faderfox MicroModul8 midi controller in the main interface (not yet implemented for the module system user interface) including special behaviors for the controller: midi feedback, preset management and preferences
- New module keywords: ‘info_mm8_detected’, ‘info_mm8_preset’, ‘info_mm8_nativeSupport’, ‘info_mm8_defaultChannel’
- Added the MIDI source parameter to Module directEvent feedback

Changes:
- Shows a message when a version limit time is reached
- OS X Minimum requirement is now 10.5 or greater

Note:
- This version is time limited to 31/12/2013
- “Art-Net™ Designed by and Copyright Artistic Licence Holdings Ltd”

Announcing the FaderFox micromodul8 MIDI controller

FaderFox micromodul8 MIDI controller

We are often asked: “What kind of controller do you recommend for controlling Modul8?”
The answer from us is always “one that works best for you.” After a while we started asking ourselves what kind of controller we would like to use with Modul8, and then contacted FaderFox to build it for us. The result of this collaboration is the FaderFox micromodul8 MIDI controller.

The micromodul8′s dimensions are 180 x 105 x 70 mm, weighing 350 g so you can put it in your backpack along with your laptop and it will not take up too much space on a desk.

micromodul8 is USB class compliant and powered by the same port, no drivers are required. It has 3 standard knobs, 4 multi-functional rotary encoders, a crossfader and 36 colored buttons that we have carefully tailored to allow you to access each of the 10 Modul8 layers and a group of 16 buttons that mirrors the layout of the media set. Of the 36 buttons, 32 of them are supplied with an LED light providing the ability to receive feedback.

Functions of the controller will be fully integrated into Modul8 so that it will be easier for module savvy folks to customize controls to their hearts delight.

Pricing will be 249€ and it will be available in the second-quarter of 2013.

One month to win two FaderFox micromodul8 MIDI controllers and 10 t-shirts for the runner-ups!

Show us a video of you, or a willing friend, doing a 30 second testimonial about how much you love Modul8. The Modul8 logo must be painted somewhere on you or your friends body.

The best two videos will be judged based the quality of the production and the content.

Submissions are restricted to existing Modul8 license holders only.

To apply simply log into to the Modul8 yourspace for further information:

http://www.modul8.ch/yourspace

The winners will receive their controllers prior to official availability.

We look forward to your submissions!

Multi-language Modul8 user manual availability

The popularity of Modul8 is a global one, therefore we have added new translations of the user manual in French, Spanish, German and Japanese in PDF format.
These manuals are available from the Modul8 yourspace download page and the software package of the Modul8 application.

Our colleagues in Vienna from the SoundFrame Festival, Eva Fischer and Florian Tanzer (of Luna.Luanisch) will be hosting a Modul8 centric VJ workshop at MUMOK (stands for Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung ludwig Wien).

Here is a sample of Florian’s work, a documentation of their previous workshop at the same location:

The related facebook event page is in German only, so I suspect that is the language that will be used for the workshop, although I am sure if you showed up they would be happy to accommodate you if English is your only language.

Mapping. It’s more then just learning software.

Doing successful mapping projects is not just about learning software. There are many other aspects to consider, such as sculpture, spacial relationships, color and composition. We hope to share with you some of ideas and experiences so you can gain a deeper understanding of the process of video mapping.

We have also noticed that most successful mapping projects are a result of collaborations. The forming of collaborations comes about through communities and people working together. We hope that you will not only learn new skills, but that each and every one of you will also get to know one another for possible future collaborations.

Best regards,
fRED and ilan
