Some images from the Mapping Festival Instagram account in anticipation of tomorrows special GarageCUBE presentation there. The progress of the festival can also be a measure of how far the medium of projection art has come since the festivals first edition back in 2005.

Here is Joanie Lemercier’s volcano installation. As I recall he was responsible for an installation involving projecting on cubes back in 2007, this was followed by an installation in 2008 by AntiVJ where they projected white outlines on a series of podiums.

Advertising running on the closed circuit advertising screens in the Geneva tram cars, a first in the history of the festival.
My interest in this medium has always been about the art. It is easy to get carried away by technical details, and sometimes it seems that the tech is central and not what the tech is for. But if you step back for a moment, the tech is just the means to an end. The real reason all this exists is to provide a spectacle for the viewer.

I will be heading down to Geneva tomorrow to be present for the GarageCUBE presentation and to perform the following night as part of FAIL for the secret agency launch party. fRED and I will be premiering a project called FÄL.box.set that is fRED and I controlling visuals with one Kinect each. Our performance will be preceded by a new project by 1024 architecture called Crise. I am pretty sure it will bring down the house.
I can’t wait. Next year I will be there. Have fun and don’t forget the masses waiting for details and pics.
