Codanova VMX-V64

Codanova VMX-V64

Our partners Codanova have have just announced that you can pre-order their upcoming VMX-V64 controller. As always, Codanova is never one to hold back on giving you as much and as many controls as possible.

Here is the tech spec:

  • 121 fully assignable controllers
  • 80 switch dual color back-light
  • 32 potentiometers
  • dip switch for fast configuration and 2 custom configurations
  • 1 optical jog wheel
  • 8 sliders and 2 crossfaders all mounted on rails
  • Power supplied by USB port
  • Extremely Modul8 friendly

I had the chance for some hands on experience with this controller during last years edition of Vision’R in Paris. One the things I like best about the the layout is the ergonomics. It makes complete sense to me to have mirrored controls like this as our bodies are build that way.

If you are looking for a total control solution and have missed out on the now sold out VMV VJ, don’t hesitate.

3D Bridge / Report #2

For the Nuit Blanche 2010 festival, 1024 Architecture designed a 20 tons scaffolding structure built on top of the Saint Louis Bridge, downtown Paris. Part of this project was included in the initial prototype that was used for developing the MadMapper. The show consisted of a 12 minute looping audio reactive visual set.

Drama!

Juanjo Fernández Rivero (aka gNomaLab) posted this on our Facebook page today. All the basics of a good mapping project, focusing on light and color and lots of cubes. What I like about this documentation in general is how relatively simple it is to build up some anticipation by merely showing some quick shots of people working on the project.

You may have noted in the past that I am obsessive about documentation. The truth is, good documentation of video projects is not easy to come buy. It takes a combination of well lit and composed footage as well as sense of what makes a good edit. Too long, and the viewer, in this day and age of ‘quick! now!” will get bored. Too short and people are left feeling like they did not see enough.

By far my most favorite thing that I have seen ‘mapping’ wise is not very large at all. 3D Zoetrope Mapping by an artist a previously posted about here, retchy is really a tasty bit of ingenuity. I don’t know how he did what he did, but I am less interested in that and just wonderfully dazzled by it. But you can certainly have a look on his site as he provides information about the process he used. Making things physically, getting out of the screen is, these days, one of the keys to getting my attention.

I love that he used The Battles, a rather refreshing break from the usual thump, thump, thump of generic electronic music that appears to be the norm with most demos.

Also breaking her is my usual rule of ‘you must use a tripod!’ and I accept that in this particular instance not having shot this with a tripod works because the resulting image playfully dances around the frame.
