Modul8 is a revolutionary MacOS X application designed for real time video mixing and compositing. It has been designed for VJs and live video performers.

Please feel free to contact us at info-at-modul8-dot-us and we'll post it.
The programmers of monomal, having just recently updated the monomal module, have outdone themselves by creating something a lot of people have had on their minds for a while.
You can get at fresh updates from iduun by following their own blog.
Once a year the Modul8 Team becomes part of the Mapping Team. As a result we have been fairly busy with this, accelerating further towards the start date. Its actually about 10 days longer this year because we have added a residency program called MetaMapping and you can read all about that project on the MetaMapping Blog.
Why do we do this stuff? Because I think we feel that this medium of computers and projectors needs a lot of energy. Its not enough for us to just make the software. We want to see everything that is being done with it and we also want to see other technologies being created and used by artists. The Mapping Festival allows us to do this. The festival is also somewhat a form of expression for us. The decisions we make with it, what we curate, the design of the posters, the t-shirts, the video promos, the website, our presence through online media, how artists are received when the arrive in Geneva, the food, the tech crew, the setups at the Zoo, all of these things constitute an expression of our vision for this medium.
Ok. This has nothing to do with the video above. So I will get to that now. Nortec has previously posted videos of their iPhones controlling Modul8 and now they have returned with their TouchOSC controls for the iPad. I am guessing that someone will show up at the Mapping this year with one and I’ll get to have a look at it up close.
Still under development, this should give you a taste of what the combined abilities of a modul8 module and a VMS using DMX control can do. All the exciting properties of mapping combined with the ability to move the projection beam around the room and ‘contextualize’ its presence at each position.
It is important to note that the unit we were using is almost two years old. We are going to Vienna next weekend to VJ at the grand finale party at the SoundFrame Festival and will likely have a chance to check out what the newer units are capable of.
I knew I would not have to wait long for someone to do this. So there you have it. Controlling modul8 with an iPad. Seems like yesterday that people first started using the iPhone to control modul8. With more surface space this is definitely a step in a much more control friendly experience. Pulled from the forums. A post by workhouse.
I recently purchased a used Monome controller. It has been an interesting experience and I have the Iduun team to thank for a very interesting implementation of controlling modul8 with the monome using their monomal module.
One of the really nice things that I learned from this experience was first, getting to know Philipe who is largely responsible for this mighty module and the second was that he very much encouraged me to provide uservoice. I had been aware of it for some time but assumed that the forum is the place for this. This approach becomes a bit tricky though when trying to remember some of the suggestions. The same goes for emails sent to support. While generally I tend to remember the most requested ones, a good and reliable consensus this does not make.
So fo forth and post to uservoice. Even if it is something like softedge, just so we can start to see real numbers related to each thing. We’ll be watching.
The link for it is embedded on this page but I have also made a link in our blog roll.
